Purchase of God

What have you to worry? What have you to fear? You have been purchased by Jesus Christ; and you now belong to him!

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.           1 Corinthians 6:20

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.             Acts 20:28

What does it mean to be purchased by God? In legal terms, when a king, or any other person, purchases another person, the purchased person is considered their slave. The definition of a slave is a person who is the property of and wholly subject to another.

In other words, if someone buys you, you belong to them. If someone else tries to steal you, your master will protect you, the same way he protects all his property.

Being a slave of God isn't such a bad position; even Jesus is called slave of God:

Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.        Isaiah 52:13 [The Hebrew word here for "servant" is Eved=slave]

But we also know that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God:

So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.      Mark 16:19

As good and honorable as that position is; are we truly only slaves of the Most High?

Galatians 4:1-7 teaches us otherwise:

Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

You are a child of God, the creator of the universe, the king of all creation. You are his son or daughter. You are his, and he will allow no one to steal you; especially not his arch-enemy - Satan.

Although you may encounter many hardships on your way, never forget that you are royalty. Keep your chin up, and keep walking straight ahead! You are above all that... You have been purchased by God, and are heading to a place where:

...the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.       Revelation 21:3-4
