Today, the Jewish people celebrated Tu B'Av - The holiday of love (The Jewish equivalent to Valentine's Day. Tu B'Av dates back to the days of the Temple in Jerusalem, marking the beginning of the grape harvest. On this day, the unmarried girls of Jerusalem would dress in white garments and go out to dance in the vineyards, and the young unmarried men would come to watch them and seek a bride...
It made me think about love... What is love?
Love is often portrayed as romance; and many times it is associated with physical attraction.
But is that what love really is?
It seems to me that what people call love often brings about a lot of bad emotions, such as jealousy, possesiveness and a need to control...
What does the Bible have to say about love?
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 tells us that:
Love is patient,
love is kind.
love is kind.
It does not envy,
it does not boast,
it is not proud.
it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
Love never fails.
Now, that is what I call love! And I'm not saying that romantic love cannot be like that; but what I am saying is that "butterflies in your stomach" is not love, and sexual attraction is not love either...
Love is the most glorious thing on earth. It is also the most beautiful one...
I wish you all to come to know the true meaning of love, as God intended it.
Stay blessed, and stay tuned,
Alpha Omega
